Can Hwang Sun-hong’s U-22 team deliver the goods and the results that fans have come to expect?
Hwang Sun-hong’s side will take on Myanmar in their third match of Group B of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup 2024 qualifiers at the Changwon Football Center at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
The top four teams from each of the 11 qualifying groups, plus host Qatar, will qualify for the U-23 Asian Cup in April and May next year. The tournament will also serve as the final Asian qualifier for next year’s Paris Olympics.
The top three teams from the tournament will head straight to Paris, while the fourth-placed team will play a playoff against the fourth-placed team from the African final qualifier for the final ticket.
Hwangseon Hongho, who had the edge over all the teams in Group B and were expected to win an easy three games in a row with home advantage, are currently adrift.
They suffered a shock 0-2 loss in their first match against Qatar on the 6th. Against Kyrgyzstan on the 9th, they earned a 1-0 win thanks to Hong Yun-sang’s early goal.
Due to Qatar’s status as hosts of the tournament, the first match was considered a friendly and did not count in the qualification standings, meaning Korea only needed a draw against Myanmar in the third match to qualify.
But in the process, South Korea lost the trust of its fans. More precisely, they lost hope in Hwang. They were disappointed to see a team with medal hopes in Paris struggle in a qualifier that wasn’t even an Olympic event.
Hwang’s tactics were clear, but the lack of movement and detailed instructions often exposed the weaknesses of his opponents. Fans were also upset by the team’s use of players that seemed unreasonable.
The only way to do this is to combine content and results. It’s certainly possible. Myanmar lost 0-6 to Qatar, a team they had beaten in South Korea on September 9. In their first game, against Kyrgyzstan, they drew 1-1. With the power and atmosphere, South Korea could be looking for a big win 먹튀검증.
They’ve also addressed some of their shortcomings. Kwon Hyuk-kyu (Celtic) and Jeong Sang-bin (Minnesota), who missed the first game due to their late arrival, played the second game to acclimate to the tournament and integrate into Hwang Sun-hong. They showed off their superior skills as overseas players.
The rest of the team also showed that they can work better with overseas players through practice, so we can expect a more lighthearted Taeguk Warriors in the third match against Kyrgyzstan.
