Despite the shocking loss in the third-place match, Park “Bubbling” Jun-hyung remained confident. “You must be disappointed with our performance, but we are confident that we can improve. Please believe in us,” he said, appealing for support.
The team lost 0-2 against Hanwha Life in the second round of the ‘2023 LOL Champions Korea (LCK) Summer at Roll Park LCK Arena in Jongno, Seoul on Friday afternoon. DePlus Kia ended the season in fourth place with 11 wins, 7 losses and a +8 goal differential.
Speaking to the media after the game, head coach Park Jun-hyung said, “I’m sorry that we didn’t let our outstanding players win. However, we are confident that we can do better,” he said, commenting on the loss in the third place match.
“After all, tournaments are played by humans, so mistakes can happen. I was disappointed that I didn’t do a better job of turning my mistakes into points. To clarify a bit more, the first game was a banfic where my opponent was speeding up and building a kaisa. It wasn’t about overcoming their jungle and mid speed. In game two, our opponent picked an early game weakness and we were unable to exploit it,” he summarized the loss to Hanwha Life.
Deflux finished fourth in the regular season and lost their first-round playoff matchup. When asked about his plans for the first round of the playoffs, Park said that he would utilize ‘diversity’. He also made it clear that he would play players for victory, not leaving Kellin in the support position where Yoon “Bible” Seol is playing 스포츠토토.
“I think the word that runs through the playoffs is diversity, and I’ll try to make the most of that. The same goes for the supporters. I’ll play the player who has the best chance of winning the next game. I would never rule out Kellin.”
Regarding the lack of a championship-caliber team not being resolved by the time of the playoffs, he said, “I think the word ‘enough’ means ‘you can use words when you win,’ and I think that’s something you have to prove with your performance, not with words,” and expressed his determination to prove that they are a championship-caliber team with their performance.
In conclusion, Coach Park Jun-hyung said, “You may be disappointed with today’s performance, but we have the confidence to improve. You can trust us,” he concluded.
